Class Descriptions

Perception Perfection - Susan Kostelecky
If you were given two gift boxes, one nicely wrapped and one a shiny robin-egg’s blue Tiffany
box – which would you choose? Learn to create your own coveted and often-referred reputation
for outstanding quality, service and innovation in this creative class showcasing numerous ways to
increase each method that potential and current clients view your persona, products and services.
Now is the time to differentiate your business by raising the bar in every impressionable way
possible. Our clients retain our services for specific results: design, furnishings, window treatments
and advice. Give them something EXTRA by providing an outstanding impression in every contact
you have with soon-to-be and current clients, creating a creative and glowing memory and reason
to refer you and your services. Leave them talking – about you and your business – in a great way!
Using a “good, better, best” format, Susan will present several ideas for each topic so that you can
choose which suits you and your business model best, in the following categories: visual (graphics,
logo, letterhead, website, marketing materials, headshots); presentation (consultation, meeting and installation materials); and follow-up (thank you gifts, cards, referral materials. This class is packed with ideas to raise the bar on your business persona.

Trunk Show Marketing - Susan Kostelecky
This class shows how to use Trunk Shows to increase your customer referral base and to showcase
creative window treatment designs and details to potential customers.
Using dozens of window treatment valances and drapery panels, Susan presents a complete Trunk
Show to attendees and discusses the details of custom window treatments and decorative details
that she outlines to her potential window treatment customers. Susan’s trunk shows educate
homeowners (and designers) on decorative details and quality standards that custom window
treatments provide. While viewing a wide variety of treatment styles, homeowners can see how
details do make a difference in adding interest and flair to their window treatment projects, as well
as how they differ from readymade treatments. Each treatment serves a multiple of functions: by
discussing details (microcording, trim, etc.), linings and interlinings and how they affect drapeability,
light bleed-through, etc., how adding cording, buttons, etc. can change the look of a treatment, and
discussing various methods of hanging treatments (rods, boards, finials, etc.), attendees gain a new
understanding of the scope of custom window treatments.
Susan provides detailed information in how to prepare for, market, present and follow up on trunk
show presentations. This method of marketing allows a workroom or designer to put their “best foot
forward” and show their talents in workmanship and design while building their pipeline of referrals
and new clients.
Examples of trunk show successes:
One trunk show with 6 attendees led to $20,000 worth of client business; attendees have placed
their first order up to 5 years after attending a trunk show; referrals and orders have come from new
customers that were NOT at a trunk show but heard about SK Designs from a trunk show attendee.
This seminar will also include several add-on and interchangeable window treatment designs to
update treatments seasonally or to add on to existing treatments for new sales and freshening up an
existing look – which is a great reason to contact previous clients for potential new work.
Included in the presentation will be several “new products” for the industry (decorative hardware,
tools, etc.)
Susan also discusses a wide variety of creative and innovative marketing tips and ideas that have
been very successful in growing her business since 1995.
Even if you have no intention of presenting your own trunk show event, this seminar showcases
many  treatment styles and includes many marketing tips to increase your business.

What do the bricks in the fireplace, the style
of the window, and the stripes in the draperies, have in common and why it
matters.  Probably the most repeated mistake made by DIY and Decorating
Professionals alike is microscope decorating.  In other words, making design
decisions without regard to what is right, left, above and below and how they
all impact one another.  Join JoAnne Lenart-Weary as she walks you through a
